Here's the 5th installment of The Parker Report – July 5, 2015:
I
hope everyone had a safe 4th. Parker took a couple of days to get
back in the swing of things after we got back from vacation. He
forgot all about doing "kisses & nuzzles" with Brad for
about two days. Brad was a little concerned, but then Parker
bounced back.
DeAnna
from Contra Costa Rabbit Rescut watched Parker at her house for us so
we could get away. We really needed that and had a lot of fun
at Sea World on our anniversary, although the long drive was tiring;
especially the two hours just to get through L.A.
In
the past week he's started sleeping in our bedroom at night. He
usually starts out downstairs when we first go to bed and later in
the night he comes up and usually sleeps in the corner on my side,
either under my chair or next to the wall so he can see me.
Then he gets us up between 5 & 5:30 am when he starts zipping
around the room.
It's
a good thing that he started sleeping upstairs because last night was
pretty bad with the idiots shooting off their illegal fireworks until
after 12:30 am.
Every
time there was a loud boom it scared Parker. I spent a long
time laying on the floor petting him while he laid under my chair in
the corner. After awhile, I was finally able to get into bed.
I
only got about five hours of sleep last night since he got up
so early. Brad was nice and got up to feed him since he had to
go over to his sister's house early to do some work and then meet
with a couple of clients after that. I felt bad for him because
I know he was tired too, even though he got to sleep before I did.
Right
now Parker's laying down under the curtain in the guest bedroom so he
can be with me while I type this email.
He's
been pretty good lately, though the night before last (as we were
trying to go to bed), he decided he wasn't tired and was running all
over the living room.
I
heard a noise that sounded like he was chewing on paper so I went
downstairs and found him chewing on the wrapper that I took off the
dolphin throw blanket we bought at Sea World. It
WAS on the futon, but he had jumped up there to get it and
chew on it on the floor. I had to take it away from him since I
didn't know what kind of paper or ink it was.
He
jumped back up on the futon and was jumping all over the place, up on
the back and about to do his trick of hopping through to the
staircase when I got him down.
I
managed to get him to follow me up the stairs so I could get some
rest again.
Of
course, since I just mentioned how good he's been lately I just
caught him trying to nibble on the edge of the carpet by the
baseboard in the bedroom so I had to go get him an empty toilet paper
roll to chew on.
I
just ran out of the block of hay DeAnna gave me for Parker when he
came to live with us and I still have the other small bag of Timothy
hay that she also gave me, but I need to find out where you buy the
blocks of hay since their probably less expensive than the packaged
hay from the pet store. I've been using the block of hay for
topping off his litter boxes and he loves it. He spends a lot
of time munching on it in there. I use the other grass for his
grass bag, which he also has fun with and sticks his entire head
inside to get the alfalfa I hide in the middle.
When
we were down at the San Diego House Rabbit Society the lady there
showed me the big boxes of hay they sell for $14. I didn't
realize I would be running out this week or I would have bought some
from her. I did buy a cute little kibble bowl with rabbit heads
& paw prints on it, plus we bought a couple of House Rabbit
Society stickers. (The profits go to help the rescue rabbits.)
As we were walking out of the building I noticed they had a cute sign
in the window that said they were "Protected by guard bunny
security" (I can't remember the exact wording, but Brad took a
picture on his phone). We went back in and asked her where she
got it and she said she got it a long time ago from the security
alarm company. I just did some searching online and found a
couple of websites with similar signs. The sights also have a
bunch of other cute rabbit-related stuff. Here are the links if
you're interested:
I
thought this one was cute too: "Private Property Airspace
Patrolled by Superbunny":
I
better go now...Parker just woke up from his nap under the guest bed
and he went out into the hall. He probably wants to play now.
I
took some pictures with my Nook at the San Diego House Rabbit Society
so you could see what it looked like. I know they must have had
at least 50 rabbits minimum there in all of their pens. We
expected it to be a little better environment for the rabbits (at
least to have air conditioning!), but at least they are being cared
for. I know they rely on donations and volunteers, so they're
lucky to have gotten a donated commercial fridge plus heavy duty
large capacity washer and dryer for the "wall of towels"
they have to wash. Brad took a panoramic video of the whole
place, but I think he may have turned on the record at the wrong time
because I don't think it turned out. I'll have to look into it
some more. When I get a chance I'll upload the photos so you
can see what the place looks like.
